A chubby nerd lays eyes on the most beautiful thing he has ever seen. It was love at first sight. Although Alyssa had little to no idea and thought of him as the quiet kid. This couldn’t have been further from the truth, most days he couldn’t shut up! He never allowed his feelings for her known and she never realized her number one crush was right there in front of her. So, naturally time passes by. They went on their own journeys in life but remained in contact from time to time. He never did forget just how her smile made him feel.

Fast forward to June 2021

One morning, after a very long night shift, David checked his phone before bed to discover a message from Alyssa! She asked HIM on a date. Of course, he said absolutely, and they planned their first date days later. Their first kiss sealed the deal. They were in love!

Things moved wonderfully fast and suddenly they had an idea one year later, with the hope it would change their lives for the better, they started their own candle business. Using their love for the dark and macabre they channeled ideas at all hours of the day and did countless hours of research and homework until they decided that Graveyard Tongues Candle Co. should be born.

The name comes from Alyssa’s poetry pen name meaning, when the dead speak. Keeping with the idea from the name, they brainstormed pages of scent combinations ranging from the good, the bad and the “oh hell no!”

Within a short amount of time, many late nights and a few drinks later, the first six scents were created. Their home became a factory. Using any bit of counter and storage space to make, create, test and design candles. Even the kids were recruited to help with ideas.

Alyssa has always been an artist since childhood. Drawing, painting and writing whenever inspiration struck. Sales and marketing excited her and her natural knack for it took them on their social media journey! Graveyard Tongues Candle Co. is now on all platforms, TikTok, Face book and Instagram.

David always enjoyed art and even was in the Art Honors program in high school. As a young adult he wanted to pursue an art career but life had other plans for him. He pursued a career in the medical field. David has been an EMT first responder for fourteen years.

Outside of jobs and creating Alyssa and David are simple people. They enjoy the outdoors, fast cars and sitting at home with friends and family making memories. They have three sons, two dogs and a couple other critters. Alyssa is now a stay at home mom, tending to the house and kids while working on their business full time. David works a 60-70 hour work week and is forever trying to find balance between his job and family. Not every day is easy but their love, ambition and determination keeps them positive and going strong!
